esbs has made a new addition to its Senior Team, while another member of the team has been promoted.
Steven Phillips recently took up the role of Financial Controller with the Society, while Stephen Wigfull has been named as its Finance Director.
Having started his career in telecommunications, Steven then transitioned into the construction industry, before taking up work in high street retail.
“I’ve always had a keen interest in financial services, and hoped to have the opportunity to work in the sector at some point,” he explains.
“Being from the area local to esbs, I was already familiar with the Society and aware of its excellent reputation as an employer. This, coupled with the strong focus on customer service and the interesting nature of the role, led me to join the team.”
Steven has been in his position since June 2019.
“What I enjoy the most about working at the Society is the fact that we are here to serve our members and offer them the best service that we can,” he continues.
“What’s more, all my new colleagues have been very welcoming and the working environment is excellent.”
In his spare time, Steven enjoys keeping fit at the gym, playing snooker, or spending time with family and friends.
Stephen joined esbs as its Financial Controller in August 2016, and will begin in his new role as Finance Director at the end of July 2019.
Prior to his time at the Society, Stephen gained a broad range of experience in the financial sector, having worked in banking roles in both London and Singapore.
“I’m thrilled to have been promoted to Finance Director with the Society,” he said.
“My previous position as Financial Controller required me to solve problems, so I am relishing the chance to face fresh and exciting challenges in my new role.
“I first joined the Society because I was passionate about being part of an organisation that promotes thrift and home ownership, and I’m pleased that these values are as firmly at the core of esbs today as they have ever been.”
Stephen has a keen interest in fitness, and particularly likes running, swimming and cycling. He has completed a 50 kilometre trail run in Salisbury, as well as the London triathlon, and is also a member of the sailing club in Wanlip.
Paul Tilley, Chief Executive of esbs, said: “I would like to wish Steven a very warm welcome to the team, and congratulate Stephen on his promotion.
“Both bring an impressive range of experience and knowledge to their respective roles, and I am pleased that the Society’s finances are in such capable hands.”
