With a new year comes new year resolutions, and many of us take a moment to reassess our finances and set savings goals for the months ahead. But how do people actually plan to save more in 2025?

For the majority of respondents—56%—cutting down on non-essential purchases is the go-to strategy. Whether it’s fewer takeaway coffees, skipping impulse buys, or resisting those online shopping temptations, this group is prioritising mindful spending.

19% are taking a more structured approach by setting up or increasing direct savings contributions. Automating savings can be an effective way to build financial security without having to think about it.

Interestingly, no one reported plans to save more by reducing energy bills., while the final quarter of respondents (25%) admit they don’t have a specific savings plan in place. Whether they’re happy with their current financial habits or just taking things as they come, this group isn’t making any major changes just yet.
