Valentine’s Day can mean different things to different people, from meticulously planned surprises to humble but heartfelt gestures, or even just skipping the occasion altogether. In our latest website poll, we asked how people approach spending for the day.
The results were evenly split at the top, with 40% saying they prefer to go with the flow and focus on the gesture, while another 40% opt for homemade or low-cost gifts. The shared theme is clear: for many, the meaning behind the day matters more than how much is spent.
A further 20% said they don’t usually celebrate Valentine’s Day, showing that plenty of people are happy to treat it like any other date on the calendar.
Interestingly, no respondents said they set a firm budget specifically for Valentine’s spending. Rather than planning rigidly, it seems most people prefer a more relaxed, flexible approach.
Whether it’s a grand gesture, a handmade gift, or no celebration at all, the results suggest Valentine’s Day is more about going along with the moment, rather than setting a rigid budget beforehand.
