Leicestershire Building Society Appoints Non-Executive Director

esbs, or Earl Shilton Building Society, has welcomed Sheryl Lawrence as a Non-Executive Director.

As part of her Non-Executive Director duties, Sheryl, who lives in Northamptonshire, holds the post of Chairman of the Risk and Compliance Committee and is a member of both the Assets and Liabilities Committee and the Remuneration Committee.

After qualifying with PwC as a chartered accountant in 1988, Sheryl started her career in the financial sector in 1996 and since then has accumulated over two decades of experience. She has gained a wealth of knowledge having worked in audit, risk, compliance and governance roles at several high street financial institutions, including Nationwide Building Society, and Coventry Building Society where she was Head of Risk.

Commenting on why she has joined esbs, Sheryl states, “I have always been interested in the building society sector because its mutual model provides the best incentive to operate in the interests of members.

“I believe esbs provides an invaluable service to its local community and offers mortgages based on individual circumstances.”

The commitment of the team at esbs particularly appealed to Sheryl.

“The level of professionalism belies its size and the genuine concern for staff and members is hugely admirable.”

Sheryl is a Trustee of her local church charity, and her faith means she is often involved in spiritual work. She is also keen on health matters including food and exercise, and loves the great outdoors, particularly Yorkshire and the Lake District.

Paul Tilley, Chief Executive of esbs, said: “Sheryl is an excellent addition to the esbs board and I am very pleased to welcome her to the team.

“Her vast experience means she has plenty to offer esbs and our members”.
