Local charities receive boost from building society voting scheme

esbs has announced the results of its Charity Token Collector scheme for quarter three of 2024. Through public voting on the esbs website, two local charities receive a share of £500.

Arthritis Support Leicestershire and Leicester Children’s Holidays are the most recent beneficiaries of the initiative, receiving £134.45 and £365.55 respectively.

The next quarter of the In the Community scheme will support One Roof Leicester and Open Hands Leicester.

One Roof Leicester, founded in 2012, provides accommodation to homeless people ready for semi-independent living. The charity works closely with local faith and community groups to ensure people receive the necessary support without duplicating services. Donations of food, toiletries, and cleaning products, along with the help of volunteers who prepare houses for new residents, are critical to its work.

Open Hands Leicester offers practical support to those in need, including food, clothing, bedding, and toiletries. Each week, over 400 people visit the Compassion Centre in the St. Matthews estate, where they can access a food bank, hot meals, English lessons, and more. With the help of over 100 volunteers, Open Hands Leicester continues to deliver essential services, relying on donations to keep their projects running.

Scott Devereux, Chief Executive of esbs, said, “Our In the Community scheme is an important part of our commitment to the local area, and we’re proud to support organisations like these that provide such an array of services to those in need. These charities play a vital role in enhancing the wellbeing of local people, and we’re pleased to contribute towards their valuable work.”

Voting for the next quarter of the Charity Token Collector scheme is now open and will close on 31st December 2024. To cast your vote, visit: https://www.esbs.co.uk/charity-token-collector/.
