Building Society helps build Earl Shilton community space

esbs, or Earl Shilton Building Society, is helping the local community with a donation to the development of a Community Space in the old Earl Shilton Town Council office.

The empty offices, owned by the Methodist Church, are in the process of being transformed into a multipurpose space with a bookshop and café. Following the results of a residents questionnaire a small team, including Helen Cobley, have ambitious plans to host a Breakfast Club for young people who would otherwise go to school without breakfast, as well as a Homework Club after school. Other groups will be welcome to use the space including the Police Beat Team and Neighbourhood Watch.

In order to make the space suitable new accessible toilets are needed, which esbs’ £100 donation will contribute to.

Helen Cobley said, “Massive thanks to esbs for considering our project. It is great that local businesses, as well as residents, are willing to support us. We really appreciate it and by doing so it ensures that all members of our community are behind our project.

“It will be a real Community Space, used by all members of our community. We are very excited about it and looking forward to reaching our fundraising target so we can physically start the work!”

Paul Tilley, Chief Executive of esbs, added, “Having previously supported Helen in other community projects, including her Neighbourhood Watch endeavours we know how passionate she is in developing the Earl Shilton community and we’re delighted to contribute to the creation of a much needed community space. We are very much looking forward to seeing the finished project!”
