Building society invests in solar power

Leicestershire-based Earl Shilton Building Society has recently installed solar panels on its Earl Shilton branch in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint.

In the right conditions, the 38 panels can produce 100% of the Society’s electricity, with the ability for surplus to be stored in an on-site battery or distributed to the national grid.

Alongside this investment, the Society had already installed an EV charger at the office, and offered those with a company car the opportunity to switch to electric or hybrid vehicles. A long standing advocate for climate change, esbs implemented an extensive recycling scheme, including less commonly recycled items like printer cartridges, and is in the process of developing its net zero strategy.

Paul Tilley, Chief Executive of Earl Shilton Building Society, said: “We are committed to our climate change strategy, and the installation of these solar panels are a step in the right direction to reduce our carbon footprint.

“As well as concerted efforts to reduce our own carbon emissions, we also encourage customers to look at their usage by permitting borrowing applications to facilitate energy efficiency based property improvements.”
