Building society donates to Leicestershire charities

esbs, or Earl Shilton Building Society, has announced the results of its online In the Community scheme for the final quarter of 2022. The scheme enables, two local charities to receive a share of £500, based on the number of votes they receive on the esbs website each quarter.

Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) and Redgate Farm Animal Sanctuary are the most recent charities to benefit from the scheme, receiving £139.80 and £360.20 respectively.

The first charities selected for 2023 are Earl Shilton Community Allotment and PROSTaid.

Earl Shilton Community Allotments, based on Breach Lane, started three years ago as a way of helping residents of the local area who needed to interact as they were lonely or had mental health issues. They started with a half plot in Breach Lane and now have two full plots which 18 people use to grow their own produce. There is a further half plot dedicated to the Community Allotments where they grow fruits and some vegetables to be shared amongst the plot holders. The group encourages everyone to take part in gardening with no tools, skills, or experience necessary to join the allotment community. Any money donated would be used to update some of the plots with new compost bins and other equipment.

PROSTaid is a local, registered, independent prostate and prostate cancer charity, based in Wigston. Established in 2006, PROSTaid covers Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire, providing information and counselling for all prostate cancer, prostate disease suffers and their families. They help fund new treatments and fund four prostate cancer specialist nurses as well as running monthly prostate cancer support groups throughout Leicestershire and in Northampton. The charity is run by prostate cancer patients, families, friends and urological professionals and receives no government funding so is completely reliant on donations to continue their work.

Paul Tilley, Chief Executive of esbs, said: “We’re delighted to continue supporting local charities through our In the Community scheme in 2023. It’s fantastic that the community continues to rally round and vote for these valuable causes each quarter.”

Voting for quarter one of In the Community ends on 31st March 2023. Place your vote at https://www.esbs.co.uk/charity-token-collector/.
