Through public votes on the esbs website, two charities receive a share of £500 each quarter, with the most recent charities, Adapt and Lamp, receiving £173.74 and £326.26 respectively.

To mark the five-year anniversary, Action Homeless and Leicestershire Blood Bikes, the very first charities to benefit from the initiative, have been re-selected for quarter one of 2024.

Action Homeless has been based in Leicester for 50 years and helps individuals and families affected by homelessness from across the city and county. Their approach to tackling homelessness goes beyond providing a roof. Everyone that walks through one of Action Homeless’ doors has access to a wide range of services which aim to tackle the causes and consequences of their homelessness. An expert team of staff and volunteers work hard to ensure people leave Action Homeless with somewhere to call home and the skills and means to maintain their independence.

Leicestershire and Rutland Blood Bikes is part of National Association of Blood Bikes (NABB), providing a free, out of hours courier service to public health bodies in Leicestershire and Rutland. Volunteers support with the movement of blood, blood products, pathology samples, patient notes, x-rays, patient scans, surgical equipment, donated breast milk – in fact anything where there is an immediate need to transport an item that will directly benefit patient care. The group relies 100% on donations from the public, from charitable groups and on company sponsorship to fund their work.

Paul Tilley, Chief Executive of esbs, said: “We are delighted to have reached this milestone with the In the Community scheme. By donating to local charities, we aim to make a real impact and create positive change where it matters most.

“Thank you to our members for supporting esbs’ commitment to giving back; we look forward to continuing to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.”

Voting for quarter one of In the Community ends on 31st March 2024. Place your vote at https://www.esbs.co.uk/charity-token-collector/.
